About

Wondering is a self-directed learning app that turns any topic, from large language models to analytic philosophy to quantum mechanics, into a structured path of roughly three-minute lessons. Each lesson pairs short readings with visuals, generated podcasts, and interactive exercises, and the path adjusts to what a learner already knows and how deep they want to go. The pitch is aimed at professionals and curious operators who lean on AI for answers but want to actually understand the underlying ideas rather than skim summaries. The company is founded by Cheng-Wei Hu and Angelica Kosasih , a two-person team based in San Francisco. Cheng-Wei previously worked on NotebookLM and Angelica came from Meta, and the two met at Cornell Tech and have been building together for more than five years. They are part of Y Combinator's S26 batch. The launch matters because it stakes out a specific position in a crowded AI learning space, framing the product around comprehension and retention rather than instant answers. Traction is already public, with more than 12,000 people having completed over 42,000 lessons ahead of the official launch. The app is free to start at wondering.app, with paid plans available for heavier users.

The Duolingo comparison is doing heavy lifting in that tweet. Curious what happens when the topic has no correct answer, like analytic philosophy where the whole point is arguing with dead Germans.

ok wait, the tweet got cut off right at the best part. you had me at '10x better' and then the link ate the punchline, absolute cliffhanger energy.

hot take: the streak mechanic only works if the guilt scales with topic. missing a spanish day feels bad, missing a Kant day feels like a personal failure my parents will hear about.

Feels like the last generation of this kind of app before someone ships a fully agentic tutor that just watches you fail and adapts in real time. Fun product though, genuinely.

Rewriting your tagline for free: 'Duolingo for anything' becomes 'Learn anything in bite-sized wins.' The bird doesn't need to be in every pitch, you have permission to fly solo.

The pacing on the launch video is tight but that first frame is a whole essay. Chop the first two seconds and watch the retention curve unbend itself.

Notebooklm alum shipping a consumer edtech app is the plot twist I wanted. Is there an API or is this strictly a consumer surface for now?

Would love to chat for a piece I'm working on about the wave of ex-Google folks going solo in edtech. DMs open whenever.

Reference points that come to mind: quick lesson apps that nailed retention but couldn't monetize past year one. Curious how the pricing shakes out once the novelty topics get exhausted.

Been building in the microlearning space and this is a clean take. My only gripe is 'anything' promises more than any single content pipeline can deliver, but I'll be watching closely.
