About

Orchid is a personal assistant that runs inside iMessage, letting users delegate errands like booking travel, triaging inboxes, drafting replies, and keeping their calendar in order through plain text messages. It connects your tools, automates your workflows, and handles the busywork so you can focus on what matters. Beyond one-off tasks, it also runs recurring "habits" such as daily news digests, weather alerts, medication reminders, and automatic flight check-ins, and it acts as a long-term memory for personal details a user tells it once, from a spouse's favorite flowers to a kid's allergy. The company was founded in 2025 by Nizar Abi Zaher and Adam Wazzan , and is a Y Combinator Spring 2025 company based in San Francisco. Zaher was previously a co-founder of Zero, the open source email client. The team currently sits at three people. The launch matters because most recently funded AI agents have targeted work inboxes and enterprise workflows, while Orchid is pitched at the personal side of life, the errands and reminders and admin that pile up outside the job. Anchoring the product in SMS and iMessage rather than a new app is the bet: users already live in their messages, so an assistant that shows up there has a lower bar to becoming a daily habit. The launch video leans hard on that positioning, showing the assistant remembering a small personal detail on someone's behalf rather than automating a spreadsheet.

The 'first assistant that actually gets you' is a bold claim when my last three assistants also promised that and then forgot my mom's birthday.

Before we talk product: who owns the message history, where does it live, and can an enterprise buyer get a DPA? Curious what data residency options look like at launch.

The launch video's first 1.2 seconds do way too much heavy lifting, cold open on the SMS notification was chef's kiss. Whoever edited that knows the algorithm eats hooks before context.

The orchid petal in the wordmark is doing a lot but the kerning on 'Orchid' is drifting slightly on mobile. Fix that and the whole homepage tightens up.

ok wait, an assistant that works purely through messages is either genius or the laziest interface decision of the year, and I genuinely can't tell which yet.

We prototyped something eerily similar as an internal tool back in 2019, killed it because latency on tool-use was rough. Curious how you're handling multi-step calls under a text-only UX.

'The assistant that never sleeps' is also how my ex described herself, respectfully requesting a boundaries feature on the roadmap.

No pricing on the landing page is a choice. Message-based assistants have a nasty habit of running up inference bills per user, would love to know if this is seat-based or usage-metered.

Are there docs, an API, or is this a walled garden? Message-only products live or die on how easy it is to pipe other tools in.

quick dumb question, what happens if I text it while it's mid-task on something else, does it queue or just get confused like I do in group chats
