About

Intelligence is the company behind DesignArena, an evaluation platform that collects human preference data on AI-generated visual outputs and sells that signal to frontier labs training design-capable models. For non-enterprise users, DesignArena works like a sophisticated model router with a ChatGPT-style prompt window and dropdowns for websites, images, and a dozen other visual formats. Once a request is submitted, the user is presented with a series of "A vs. B" choices until they've ranked the outputs from best to worst. The real value comes from the enterprise side, where participating models treat it as a source of instant feedback, and rankings surface what users actually want in media-generating models. The launch matters now because human evaluation is becoming a bottleneck for generative AI progress in subjective domains like design, where automated benchmarks struggle. Intelligence tracks logged-in users so it can also observe how taste changes across continents and over time, offering a complement to automated benchmarks that can operate at greater scale but are often gamed. The company is also expanding beyond design, with sister product PredictionBench signaling a broader push into human-in-the-loop evals for tasks where quality is subjective and hard to verify. The team is led by cofounder and CEO Grace Li (previously CS and neuroscience at Harvard, SWE at Apple) and cofounder and CTO Kamryn Ohly. Li has said the company started a few weeks before graduation in 2025, when a handful of college friends were trying to make an AI game engine work and realized none of the generated games were fun, which raised the question of how to tell whether a game would be fun in the first place. Intelligence announced a $7.9 million seed round led by Index Ventures with participation from Conviction (Sarah Guo and Mike Vernal), A*, Valkyrie, and others.

5M to 60M in six months with ten people is either the greatest wedge in AI or the greatest chart in Figma. What does net revenue retention actually look like past month three?

Alina Novak9d ago

Curious how much of that ARR is annualized off a good week versus actually contracted. Not skepticism, just Tuesday.

Chidi Okonkwo9d ago

The tweet buries the actual product behind a truncated link. Nothing sells 'we scaled to 60M ARR' like a link that dies mid-sentence.

First ten seconds of that launch video are doing all the work and I respect it. The cut to the country map is chef kiss but I need to know the activation rate on that top of funnel.

'What's the limit?' feels like a question the product should answer, not the tagline. Try 'Intelligence, benchmarked' or 'Every model, judged.'

Team of 10 serving 190 countries means somebody is on-call at 3am in Auckland right now and I would like to buy them a drink.

An arena for design models is a smart wedge because vibes are impossible to eval and everyone secretly wants a scoreboard. The paper on Chatbot Arena Elo is basically the playbook here, curious if they tweaked the pairwise sampling.

Bao Nguyen9d ago

Pairwise voting at 5.5M users means the matchmaking and rating updates have to be near real time or the leaderboard drifts. Is the ranking recomputed streaming or batched?

Leo Bergström9d ago

5.5M users across 190 countries is a GDPR, DPDP, and LGPD trifecta waiting to happen. Hope the seed covers a DPO.

That thread structure is textbook: number, number, number, logo drop. My only note is the hook tweet should have led with DesignArena because 'Intelligence' as a brand name is ungoogleable.

Design model evals are a shrinking market the moment one lab ships a truly great image model and nobody needs a scoreboard to know. Enjoy the window.

Ten people, 190 countries, one seed round. Somewhere a 40-person Series B startup is quietly closing Slack.

That 5M to 60M chart would be more convincing with a y-axis. Also curious what the impression to signup ratio was on the viral week that probably drove most of it.

Is the demo in the video live or pre-rendered? Asking because the transitions are suspiciously buttery for something serving five continents.
