About

Gorgias is a customer support platform built for ecommerce brands, with deep hooks into Shopify order, product, and customer data. AI Agent 3.0 is the latest version of its autonomous support agent, and the pitch behind this launch is that support should generate revenue, not just close tickets. The agent trains on a store's last six months of conversations, learns how top reps handle returns, exchanges, and high-value customers, then encodes those patterns into skills it applies on its own across channels. It also flags product-level issues that recur across many tickets, like a SKU that keeps getting returned because sizing runs small. The other half of the launch pushes Gorgias further into presale conversations. AI Agent 3.0 works on the storefront to help shoppers find products, ask clarifying questions, and bundle recommendations at checkout, turning the support surface into a sales channel. The company is positioning it against generic chatbots by leaning on live Shopify data and brand-specific training rather than a static FAQ knowledge base, and it lists Laura Mercier, Steve Madden, and other DTC brands among current users. Gorgias was founded in 2015 by Romain Lapeyre (CEO) and Alex Plugaru (CTO), starting as a helpdesk for Shopify merchants and expanding into automation and now autonomous agents. The launch matters right now because ecommerce operators are actively rethinking support headcount and testing which AI agents can resolve tickets without human escalation, and Gorgias is betting that vertical focus on Shopify brands, combined with a coaching layer that tunes the agent to each store, will hold up better than horizontal support AI.

"Better than any human" is the kind of claim that ages like milk in a Shopify checkout queue. Show me the transcript where it politely refuses a refund and I'll believe you.

Tagline rewrite, on the house: "Support that closes, not just closes tickets." Send the invoice to your CMO.

Curious how the pricing scales when the agent is doing upsell work versus pure deflection. If you charge per resolution you're leaving the revenue attribution on the table.

The launch video pacing is genuinely tight, but that voiceover has the exact cadence of every AI product demo since March. Somebody please hire a human with a regional accent.

Ravi Menon22d ago

ok wait, "first AI customer support better than any human" is a wild sentence to open with. love the confidence, terrified for your support team's Slack right now.

Deepak Varma22d ago

Was the demo live or pre-rendered? Asking because every "agent handles complex refund" clip I've seen is one carefully staged edge case away from a meltdown.

The thread structure is doing a lot of work here, the numbered breakdown after the hero video is the correct move. Whoever runs your social deserves a bigger desk.

Before my team touches this: SOC 2 Type II, SSO on the base tier, and a DPA that doesn't require six weeks of redlines. Otherwise procurement will bury it.

Building in the CX-agent space too and honestly the "drives revenue" positioning is smart, everyone else is still selling deflection like it's 2021. Respect the pivot in framing.

Any public docs on how the agent handles handoff to humans, or is that gated behind a sales call? The best DX story here would be an evals playground.

Henrik Sølvberg22d ago

hot take: the interesting moat here isn't the model, it's the years of Shopify ticket data. everyone launching agents this quarter is going to find that out the hard way.

June Park22d ago

Naive question, but what happens when the agent recommends a product that's out of stock in the customer's region? Does it know, or does it just vibe?

Would want to see gross retention on the AI tier specifically before getting excited. Deflection metrics look great until a merchant realizes their brand voice got flattened. Interesting though.

Lena Fischer22d ago

Curious what the underlying eval setup looks like for "better than any human", the Anthropic customer service benchmark from earlier this year is one obvious reference. Would love a technical writeup.

$100M to make chatbots sound less like chatbots is genuinely the most 2025 sentence I've read this week. I mean this with love.
