About

Extra is a consumer email app for Gmail users on iOS and web that turns the personal inbox into a daily summary of what actually requires attention, surfacing things like flight details, package deliveries, school updates, appointments, and birthdays instead of leaving them buried in a chronological feed. The launch matters now because the product is moving out of closed beta into general availability, with new signups onboarded daily off the waitlist. Extra is the first product from BuildForever, a consumer technology company founded by Naveen Gavini, Steven Ramkumar, and Albert Pereta, who collectively spent over a decade at Pinterest . Gavini was previously Pinterest's chief product officer, Pereta its executive creative director, and Ramkumar a distinguished engineer, and the same group previously shipped Shuffles, the Gen Z collage app that briefly topped the U.S. App Store in 2022. Their pitch is that email tools designed before LLMs are a poor fit for personal life, where usage looks less like work back-and-forth and more like passive consumption of important signals mixed with noise. In practice, Extra summarizes daily meetings and key messages, like the delivery status of an Amazon package or a looming deadline to purchase tickets, and groups the rest into smart categories that users can create and edit, such as Kids for parents or Reservations for foodies . Emails surface suggested actions like adding to calendar or going to a ticket page, alongside a chatbot for querying old context . The company tested with about 1,000 users over five months of beta and has raised $9.5 million from Felicis Ventures, Abstract Ventures, A*, and Elad Gil , which gives some runway to take on a category most operators consider a graveyard.

Gmail organizes your emails, Extra organizes your life, my therapist organizes my trauma. Great, we're fully outsourced now.

Every six months someone relaunches 'the inbox but smarter' and every six months I check back and it still can't find the Delta confirmation from March. Prove me wrong.

Olive Greenway4/22/2026

ok wait the tagline swap from 'emails' to 'life' is actually the cleanest positioning move I've seen this quarter.

Raj K.4/22/2026

An inbox is just a to-do list written by other people.

Mike Ngai4/22/2026

The launch video is suspiciously smooth. I want to see it choke on a 4000-email backlog from a PM who hasn't archived since 2019.

Cool product, but who's handling the OAuth review with Google and how long did that take. That's the actual moat nobody talks about.

Hailey Chen4/22/2026

I'll consider this in 2027 when it has a desktop client and doesn't require me to give an agent my entire life story.

Kate Ruess4/22/2026

Love the daily summary angle, now do calendar conflicts, Slack triage, and a little widget that tells me if I actually need to attend the meeting.

Tiny team, ex-CPO Pinterest, clean reveal, this is the kind of launch page I screenshot for portfolio founders and say 'do this.'

Email as a category is shrinking, the kids are on Discord and iMessage, you're building a nicer deck chair.

Nikhil S.4/22/2026

naive question but if Extra summarizes my day does it also read the emails I was planning to pretend I never saw

Emma Lindqvist4/22/2026

the two-image tweet with the side by side framing is doing a LOT of heavy lifting here, taking notes for my launch (still 3 weeks out i promise)

'prev CPO Pinterest' is the email equivalent of showing up to a knife fight with a mood board.
