MouthPad is a custom-fit device worn on the roof of the mouth that lets users control phones, tablets, and computers through tongue, head, and sip gestures , connecting to devices as a standard Bluetooth mouse. This launch marks nationwide U.S. availability, expanding beyond the earlier program that required customers to travel to a handful of cities for in-person mouth scans and onboarding . Prospective users now join a waitlist, get a custom fit remotely, and receive a made-to-order unit. The primary audience is people with paralysis or limited hand mobility who need a reliable way to operate everyday computing devices, though Augmental also positions it for anyone who wants their hands free during a task. The device uses a pressure-sensitive touch pad paired with motion sensors to translate tongue movements and head gestures into cursor scrolling and clicks in real time. For users with limited tongue control, alternative inputs such as clenches or sips are supported , and it works across major operating systems without special software. Augmental is an MIT Media Lab spinoff based in San Francisco, co-founded by Tomás Vega (CEO) and Corten Singer, with hardware lead Anthony Halliwill closely associated with the device's design. The company has previously said it intends to pursue U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance, which would allow the MouthPad to interface with wheelchairs and robotic arms and enable reimbursement through insurance , making this general-availability launch a step toward broader clinical and consumer adoption.
