About

Andera is an AI platform that automates internal audit and controls testing, targeting the Excel-heavy workflows that finance and audit teams at public companies use to satisfy Sarbanes-Oxley, operational, and compliance requirements. Instead of humans manually collecting evidence, sampling populations, and drafting workpapers, Andera runs agents that read across thousands of pages of source documents, reason about whether the evidence satisfies a control objective, and produce documentation in the same format auditors already use. The company is built by co-founders Aryo Patel (CEO) and Tinah Hong (CTO), and its platform is engineered to automate manual, Excel-heavy Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), operational, and compliance testing workflows. The launch matters because internal audit is one of the largest reasoning-heavy back-office functions that has resisted automation, and the economics are painful. For the average public company, audit fees cost $3M annually, and Fortune 100 companies spend north of $20M annually. Andera's bet is that audit is fundamentally a reasoning problem rather than a rules problem, requiring an auditor to read complex, multi-format evidence, reason about whether it satisfies a control objective, and produce documentation that holds up to regulatory scrutiny. The convergence of large language model reasoning, long context windows, and agentic tool use has changed what is now possible. The launch video frames this through Enron, arguing that fraud is cheap to hide across millions of spreadsheets and expensive to find without agents that can hold formatting choices from page 4,000 in mind while reading page 40,000. Andera is a San Francisco company that has raised a $37M Series A led by Lightspeed Venture Partners to automate internal audit from end to end. Patel previously worked on Azure infrastructure scaling at Microsoft and on the trading desk at Jane Street , and Hong was previously at Stripe and Microsoft. The pitch to finance leaders, Big Four practitioners, and CFOs is straightforward: keep the workpaper format your auditors already accept, and let agents do the sampling, tie-outs, and evidence review that currently consumes the bulk of a controls tester's week.

Opening the tweet with a mini-manifesto about regulation before revealing the raise is a bold play. Made me actually read past line one, which almost never happens.

The cut from the abstract regulation intro to the product demo needed one more beat of breathing room. Felt like the voiceover ate the visual.

Compliance teams have been begging for this since forever. Curious how you handle the auditor in the room who still wants a PDF signed in blue ink.

Staff eng question: is the agent actually executing tests against controls or just summarizing evidence? Those are wildly different reliability stories.

Shipped something adjacent at a big co in 2019 and it died in procurement hell. The wedge here is the framing, not the tech, and the framing is genuinely good.

The Stripe plus MIT plus Neo bio pattern is basically a cheat code for financial infra credibility. Not mad, just noting the physics.

Building in adjacent GRC territory and honestly the regulation-as-trust framing is the cleanest version I have seen. Slightly annoyed I did not write it first.

Hot take: the controls testing market is not shrinking, it is fragmenting into a hundred verticals none of which want the same product. Curious which one you pick first.

Trust is the moat nobody puts in a pitch deck because it does not chart well. Nice to see a raise pointed at exactly that.

The thumbnail crop cuts off half the product screenshot on mobile. Small thing, but the whole punchline of the reveal lands weaker for it.

Roadmap suggestion nobody asked for: exportable audit trails that speak SOC2 and DORA in the same breath. You will thank me at series B.

Engagement on this tweet is doing something weird, the reply-to-like ratio is way off for a raise announcement. Either the thesis is spicy or the algo is confused.

Docs and self-serve trial when? Compliance buyers claim they hate touching product but they read every doc page at 2am, trust me.
