About

Airwallex is a global payments and financial platform aimed at businesses operating across borders, offering business accounts, corporate cards, FX, treasury, expense management, and embedded finance APIs. Founded in 2015 with roles including Jack Zhang as CEO, Lucy Liu as president, Max Li as head of design, Xijing Dai as chief technology officer, and Ken Wong as principal architect, the company was built to lower costs for cross-border payments and has since expanded into a full-stack suite that includes global business accounts, corporate cards, treasury, embedded finance, and expense management . This launch marks the company's move from rails to reasoning. Alongside the funding, Airwallex is announcing two new products: T:0, an AI-native financial platform designed to run the full finance function of a business end to end , and Airi, which the company plans to evolve into broader wallet infrastructure for agentic commerce, including delegated agent payments, spend limits, permission controls, and multi-currency balances . The pitch is aimed at finance leaders at globally distributed, AI-heavy teams who want software agents handling reconciliation, payments, and reporting rather than human ops staff. The timing matters because Airwallex is layering this on top of meaningful scale. Revenue hit $1.3B annualised in March 2026, up 74% year-on-year , and the round, led from a $8 billion valuation just six months earlier , gives the company capital to compete with both incumbent treasury providers and a new wave of AI-finance startups. Recent moves underline the direction, including the June acquisition of Leapfin, a revenue-recognition and reconciliation platform , which slots directly into the T:0 vision.

The thumbnail does that thing where the founder is staring slightly off-camera into the future of finance. We get it Jack, you're contemplating treasury.

Every fintech this year is suddenly the 'intelligent layer'. At some point the layers stack so high we just call it a cake.

Smaller teams going global from day one is real, but pretending agents need a bank account is a stretch. My agent does not need a debit card, it needs a leash.

you say that until your agent racks up a $4k OpenAI bill and you wish it had a spending limit and a finance team

Genuine question for the docs team: what's the rate limit on the payouts API and do you expose idempotency keys on transfer creation? Asking because last time I tried to read your reference I got lost in tabs.

Tweet copy is doing the classic three-beat funding announcement: raise, thesis, plug. Clean, but I've now seen this exact structure four times this week.

The cut at 0:14 from the office b-roll to the dashboard close-up is rough. You can see the white balance shift, somebody owes that colorist a coffee.

and the voiceover sits about 3dB too hot over the music bed, my ears filed a chargeback

10 years to become an overnight AI company is honestly the most fintech arc possible.

Curious what 'intelligent' actually means here in implementation terms. Is there a paper or even a blog post on how the agent permissions and approval flows are modeled?

Bookmarking this for when I finally launch my own thing in 3 weeks. Just need to finish the landing page. And the product. And incorporate.

Cross-border B2B payments market is way more saturated than this announcement implies. Everyone is the rails now, nobody is the train.
