About

Linear Releases lets software teams plan and track releases directly inside Linear, the issue tracker used by companies like OpenAI, Coinbase, and Ramp. The feature connects to existing CI/CD pipelines and tracks the deployment environment, version, and status of every issue, giving team members and agents full deployment context. For engineering leads and PMs who already live in Linear, this closes the gap between "merged" and "actually shipped." Issue statuses update automatically when associated code lands in production, so teams see what is live to customers rather than only what has been merged. Release notes can be written for a single release or a range of releases, and the Linear Agent can draft them from the included issues. Both continuous deployment and scheduled release workflows are supported, with up to 5 release pipelines on the Business plan and unlimited pipelines on Enterprise. The launch matters now because Linear is leaning into a model where AI agents work alongside humans on tickets, and agents need structured deployment data to act safely. Linear was founded in 2019 by Karri Saarinen, Tuomas Artman, and Jori Lallo , and Releases extends the core tracker into territory previously handled by separate release management tools or homegrown scripts.

Releases inside Linear means I can finally stop pretending the spreadsheet my team keeps is a deployment tracker. Curious how this plays with monorepos that ship 14 services per merge.

Hot take: this is the last release tool that ships without an agent owning the rollback decision by default. Six months from now nobody will click 'deploy' manually.

Tagline rewrite, on the house: 'Ship software. Skip the standup.' You can Venmo me later.

The cut at 0:14 where the issue status flips while the deploy bar fills is genuinely satisfying video editing. Whoever timed that to the bass hit deserves a raise.

Building something adjacent in the changelog space and watching this drop with mixed feelings. Respect the execution, now I have to go rewrite my landing page tonight.

ok wait, can agents actually trigger a release here or just observe one? because those are very different products and the demo glides over it.

Counterpoint: half the teams I work with can't even keep issue statuses honest, so adding a deployment field is just one more thing to lie about in retros.
