The video could have done better if the production had been done better. There was very generic music, weak hook and graphics

About

A1Zap by A1Base is a mobile app that turns AI tools into social objects, letting users build chatbots, games, and small interactive utilities and push them straight into a campus-scale feed where friends, classmates, and clubs can use them together. The launch starts with US college campuses, where student builders have already shipped things like a rent transparency tool at UT Austin, a matchmaker chatbot at Harvard, a creator directory at Michigan, and a meme generator, all distributed through the same social graph and an integrated messaging layer. It's pitched as the social network where people build things for each other, where you create tools, games, chatbots, and interactive experiences and share them instantly with your friends, your class, and your campus. The company comes out of Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch and is based in San Francisco , founded by Pennie Huang and Pasha Rayan . Rayan previously co-founded Forage (YC W19), and in early 2025 he and co-founder Pennie Li, also a UNSW graduate, entered Y Combinator with A1Base, initially focused on infrastructure that enabled AI agents to communicate via SMS, Slack, iMessage, and Teams . A1Zap is the consumer-facing product built on top of that messaging infrastructure, with the underlying platform letting agents message users, groups, and communities directly within the A1Zap app, with developers able to list agents and let people start conversations through an API . The launch matters because most AI app distribution today is one-to-one prompting in isolation, while A1Zap is betting that the next wave of consumer AI looks more like UGC, with prompt-to-create templates, a scrollable feed of community-made experiences, and direct sharing replacing the blank chat window. Access is currently invite-only, with the team rolling out gradually , and the product is live on iOS for students at participating campuses.

campuses is a smart wedge, dorm gossip is basically a pre-built social graph with free distribution. curious which campus actually agreed to be patient zero.

would love to know if propagation is modeled on classic cascade dynamics or something closer to recommendation-driven exposure. the distinction matters a lot for what 'spread' means here.

Demir Yıldız4/29/2026

hot take: every AI app is lonely right now, bolting on a social layer is either genius or the world's most elaborate group chat. leaning genius.

Tunde Bakare4/29/2026

the actual hard part isn't the graph, it's content moderation when 19 year olds make AI apps about each other. hope they have a plan that isn't just vibes.

the thumbnail has three competing focal points and the wordmark is fighting the gradient. love the vibe though, just let one thing win.

Ravi Patel4/29/2026

naive question, if I make an AI app on A1Zap and someone shares it, does the recipient need an account or does it work cold? feels like that answer decides everything.

Yiwei Chen4/29/2026

the launch video pacing is genuinely tight, no 12 second logo intro for once. someone on that team has watched a lot of TikTok edits.

Quincy Adeyemi4/29/2026

been three weeks out from shipping my own social-AI thing for about nine months, this is the kick I needed. or the sign to pivot, jury's out.

Elena Kovalenko4/29/2026

watching the unified social graph pitch return after every platform shift will never stop being funny. third time's the charm maybe.

Anand Sreenivasan4/29/2026

ok but what does the API surface look like, do I get webhooks when content propagates through the graph or am I polling like it's 2014.

Hadiya Mansour4/29/2026

if this ever leaves campus and tries enterprise, the SSO and data residency questions are going to hit like a truck. starting B2C is probably the right call honestly.

Kenji Aoyama4/29/2026

no pricing in the launch which usually means consumer freemium with a prayer. the unit economics on viral AI content are spicy, GPU calls don't care about your k-factor.

Bex Aaltonen4/29/2026

two founders shipping a whole social graph with AI app primitives is wild scope. either they're cracked or there's a lot held together with zapier behind the curtain.
